It’s another busy morning. You’re running behind, the dog isn’t listening, and “oh great”… now you’re noticing water starting to back up in your sink or tub!

What should you do? Should you call a plumber or try to handle this task yourself?

Well, it’s not always an easy question to answer.

Unclogging a shower drain can sometimes be a very easy task if it requires just a bit of “gunk” or hair to be removed from the drain. However, a “simple fix” shouldn’t ever require you to unscrew anything or put anything down a pipe. If you can’t simply remove the blockage with your hands, then it may be time to consider calling a plumber.

Unfortunately, sometimes when people attempt to unclog their own drains, they unintentionally cause more harm than good. When too much pressure is applied you risk cracking or breaking pipes, causing instability that will later lead to a leak. In addition, using chemical cleaners can cause problems to the pipes and should not be used at all!

Plumbers are much more equipped at solving problems like clogged drains and can inspect for larger issues like major pipe or sewer line issues.
