April 22nd, 2019

A year ago in April our air quality here in New Jersey was amongst the worst in the country. Fortunately, it has greatly improved since then. The ozone in our smog was blamed for triggering a high amount of asthma attacks on our citizens and not all of it is our fault. Much of the pollution and allergies moved in from other areas outside of our control. On a positive note, currently we’re experiencing great air quality in most areas! However, April is when New Jersey’s air starts having increases in different types of pollen, which can also exacerbate asthma and cause  other respiratory issues. A clear air filter is more efficient than old, used ones in keeping these micro-irritants at bay. As the world around us becomes more colorful and full of flowers, also comes an increase in pollen. Here at SG Heating and Air Conditioning LLC, we believe in being proactive in addressing seasonal air quality issues. So here are a couple of things that you can do to save money and improve your indoor air quality

1.    Change your Air Filter

Not only will changing your filters keep your air cleaner and reduce airborne allergens, it will save you money in the long term. Just like a car that never gets an oil change; neglecting your filters can turn into big issues later on. Filters should be checked monthly, and changed when visibly dirty. 1″ filters should be changed at least every three months, while 2″-6″ conventional filters should be changed at least every 6 months. Our maintenance agreement customers enjoy the convenience of having our skilled technicians out twice a year to check and replace their filters and service their equipment. You have very little control over what the air is going to be like outside, but if you have a well-maintained HVAC unit you can make sure the air in your home stays fresh and reduce irritants like dust and pollen.

2.    Get a Home Energy Audit

New Jersey has one of the most generous home performance program in the US, and currently offers homeowners a $4000 rebate and 0% $10,000 loan to implement home performance projects. At SG Heating & Air Conditioning we are TEAM GREEN!® We’re active participants in the New Jersey Clean Energy Home Performance with Energy Star® Program and we’re committed to helping all home owners save money by improving their home’s energy performance. If your HVAC system is working hard to keep your house cool or warm, but the heat or air conditioning keeps escaping through cracks and holes in your attic, basement, doors & window frames, that’s something that can be resolved and save you money on your electric bill.
